Change up your camping menu with something a little later this fall. Thanks to this delicious camping recipe, these easy chicken burgers are a cinch to make and provide all of the nutrition you need without the heaviness of a typical burger.
Ingredients
Recipe adapted from one on ThePioneerWoman.com
- 2 lb. ground chicken
- 3 tbsp. full-fat sour cream
- 1/4 c. panko or regular breadcrumbs
- 1/4 c. chopped chives
- 1 garlic clove, chopped
- 2 tsp. kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp. mustard
- 1 tsp. hot sauce, optional
- 1 tbsp. vegetable oil
- 6 toasted hamburger buns
- Optional Toppings: buffalo sauce, blue cheese, lettuce, sliced red onion, mayonnaise
Instructions:
- Start by making your ground chicken patties. In a large bowl, combine the chicken, sour cream, breadcrumbs, chopped chives, garlic salt, black pepper, mustard, and hot sauce if you like it a little spicy.
- Mix gently with your hands to combine and then divide into six portions, rolling each into a bowl and pressing into a patty approximately 3/4 inches thick.
- Set each patty on a square of parchment or wax paper so that it’s easy to place them on the grill without sticking to each other.
- Over a campfire, heat a large cast-iron skillet until hot, then add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to cut the bottom of the pan.
- Add the patties to the skillet and remove the wax paper. Let each patty cook for five minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 165. Keep in mind that these are not beef patties. You must reach an internal temperature of 165 for them to be ready to eat.
- Serve on toasted buns with your choice of toppings, and enjoy!
